MAT 353 News

Class meets in O'Connell Room 230 from 9:40 to 11:10 am on M and W.

There is free tutor service available. In LPC, the location is 5th floor lounge area (outside my office). It is also available at Loop. See tutor schedule now. More tutors are expecting to come so the schedule may be updated periodically.

Do this week's homework.

Check your grade and answer of quiz when they are available after you take them. If you get below 13/20 in the quiz, please redo it.

Note the redo quiz is the same quiz you did in class, but you have about two days' time to re do it and hand it in at the beginning of the next class (Wed.) which will be counted up to 1/4 of the quiz grade. After you re do first 4 class quizzes, the sum of the redo quizzes adds up become one "virtual quiz" and it is in the all quiz pool. Similarly, the sum of the last 4 redo quizzes adds up become anther "virtual quiz" and it is also in the all quiz pool. Two of the worst quizzes in the pool (8 class quizzes and two "virtual quiz") will be dropped and 8 remaining ones will be counted as total quiz grade, which is 40% total class grade.

The purpose of redo (besides its rewarding purpose) is to compare what you did the first time with what you did the second time (honestly did) and find out why you made the mistake the first time and then find out a way to correct it in the future. If you keep making the same mistake, you need seek assistance so to correct it. Therefore, it is important the redo work is done by yourself to achieve this purpose. Otherwise, the same problem may appear again in the future test and quizzes and it may continually hurt you.
